BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with an indoor match against Mount Union on Friday afternoon at Brady's Run Indoor Courts. Mount Union defeated the men, 5-1.
Mount Union took all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Junior Braiden Smalley and freshman Ben Busler almost earned a win in No. 1 doubles before falling in a tiebreaker.
In singles play, Smalley managed to earn a three-set win in No. 1 singles 6-7, 6-3, 11-9. Busler's match in No. 2 singles also went three-sets, with Busler dropping the third-set tiebreaker. Sophomore Ethan Mullen also took his match in No. 5 singles to three sets before falling in a tiebreaker. The match in No. 6 singles was stopped in the second set because the teams ran out of court time, so no point was awarded in that match.
"This was a good team to play for our opening spring match," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "We had a lot of competitive matches, and we found some things to work on before PAC matches start."
The men have almost a month off before their next match. Geneva will return to play on March 20 in the conference opener at W&J.
