Men’s Tennis Drops PAC Opener at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team dropped its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at W&J on Wednesday, falling 6-1 in a match that had multiple matches that could have gone either way.  Geneva's record is now 2-5 overall, 0-1 in the PAC.

Junior Braiden Smalley and freshman Ben Busler earned a win in No. 1 doubles, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't pick up a win in either of the doubles matches and lost the doubles point.

Smalley earned Geneva's lone point of the night in No. 1 singles, easily winning his match 6-1, 6-3.  Busler's match in No. 2 singles went to a third set, but W&J prevailed in that match.  Senior David Clark and sophomore Thayne Bodenmiller also had sets go to tiebreakers in their matches, but they couldn't pull out wins.

"This really was a winnable match for us," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "We had tiebreakers and other close sets, but we just couldn't convert.  We just need to start putting those sets away, and things will around."

Geneva will return to action on Monday when the Golden Tornadoes host Saint Vincent at 6:00 p.m. at Blackhawk Courts.
