Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Can’t Sustain Good Start in Doubles against Saint Vincent

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team got off to a strong start in its match with Saint Vincent on a cool Monday evening at Blackhawk Courts, winning the doubles point, but the Golden Tornadoes couldn't overcome a talented Bearcat squad and lost 5-2.  Geneva dropped to 2-7 overall, 0-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Saint Vincent improved to an impressive 12-2 record, 2-1 in the PAC.

The men got exactly the start they were hoping for in doubles play against one of the better teams they've played so far this year.  Junior Braiden Smalley and freshman Ben Busler won No. 1 doubles 7-5, and then senior David Clark and sophomore Thayne Bodenmiller followed with a 6-4 win in No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point.

Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes couldn't sustain that play as they entered into the singles portion of the match.  Smalley stayed undefeated in singles play, easily taking No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2, but that was the only point Geneva could secure, with Saint Vincent taking the other five singles matches in straight sets.

"We got off to the start we've been looking for in doubles," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "but they were just too solid in singles play."

The schedule stays tough this week as the men host Grove City on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
