STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva College men's tennis team made its final road trip of the season when the Golden Tornadoes traveled to Franciscan for a match on Monday afternoon. The match was decided by the narrowest of margins, with Franciscan prevailing, 4-3. Geneva's record is now 3-10, 1-6 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Sophomore Ethan Mullen and freshman Simon Burkett won their match in No. 3 doubles for Geneva, 6-4, but Franciscan won the other two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
In singles action, junior Braiden Smalley captured a three-set victory in No. 1 singles 5-7, 6-1, 10-4, while senior David Clark also won in three sets in No. 3 singles 7-6, 3-6, 10-4. Mullen won his match in No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-2, but Geneva couldn't find the final point to secure the victory.
"We had three exciting singles wins," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "but the doubles point made the difference today."
The men will wrap up their season tomorrow with a home match against Waynesburg at 4:00 p.m. Because of the chance of rain, the match will be played at Brady's Run Indoor Courts.
