BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After a high scoring season for the Geneva College baseball team, it was no surprise to see four key players from the Golden Tornadoes' lineup receive all-conference recognition when the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) announced their postseason awards Wednesday evening. Junior outfielder
Aaron Babu highlighted the group, earning Second Team All-PAC honors, while seniors
Eric Gonzalez and
Zack Sackett, along with sophomore
Michael Twigg, were each named to the All-PAC Honorable Mention team.
Babu put together an impressive season with the GTs, starting in right field in all 38 games Geneva played this year en route to being named to an all-conference team for the first time in his career. He finished second on the team in batting average, hitting .391, and his on-base percentage of .509 was the third highest in the PAC. Additionally, he led the team and finished third in the PAC in runs scored, crossing the plate 51 times. Across the season, he hit nine doubles, four triples, and three home runs while driving in 30 RBIs and stealing 13-of-15 bases. His double, triple, home run, and RBI numbers all at least doubled his previous career-highs.
Gonzalez had a breakout year as well, leading the PAC in both batting average (.424) and on-base percentage (.547) in his final season with the team. Much like Babu, Gonzalez shattered his previous career-highs in several categories, including RBIs (33), runs scored (31), doubles (12), and walks (24). It is the first time in his career that he has been named to an All-PAC team.
Sackett's Honorable Mention award was the third All-PAC honor he has received in his four years with the program and his second in a row. As Geneva's leadoff batter for much of this season, he notched a team-best 55 hits, good enough for ninth in the PAC, while also leading the team in home runs (5) and RBIs (41). He batted .344 across the year, hitting five triples and four doubles, and scored 43 runs as well.
Twigg built upon his strong freshman campaign with an even better sophomore year, earning his first career all-conference award. He led the PAC with 24 stolen bases and batted .304 with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 35 RBIs. He also led the team with 30 walks, second-most in the PAC, to finish with a .444 on-base percentage.
In addition to the four players listed above, senior
Connor O'Brien was also recognized by the conference on Wednesday night, being named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.
