Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Offense Struggles Again in Loss to Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Geneva women's soccer program put together a strong defensive showing in the first half of Saturday's match at Kenyon College, but it wasn't enough as the home side scored four second-half goals to nab the victory. The Golden Tornadoes have struggled to score in recent weeks, and it caught up to them again versus the Owls. The loss brings Geneva's record down to 1-3-2, while Kenyon remains undefeated at 6-0, having not allowed a goal all season long.

The GTs' defense was excellent in the first half, with the back line keeping the Kenyon threat to a minimum despite the hosts having the majority of the possession. Geneva's lone shot of the game came in the ninth minute, with junior Elliana Zwatty making a run up the left flank and sending a deep ball in toward the net that didn't end up troubling the goalkeeper.

The Owls continued to control the possession into the second half, and finally it paid dividends for them with a goal in the 52nd minute. They doubled their advantage seven minutes later and wound up scoring twice more before the clock hit zeros.

Kenyon outshot Geneva 34-1 over the course of the match, illustrating the Owls' control over the pace of play. Freshman Natalie Foster was very active for the women in net, making a career-high 14 saves in the loss.

The Golden Tornadoes return home for their next two matches, starting with a tilt against Heidelberg next Saturday, September 20th, at 1:00 p.m. They will then host W&J the following Tuesday for their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the season.
