BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Sophomore Chloe DeSanzo and senior Lauren Estes earned victories in the top singles flights for the Geneva College women's tennis team against W&J on Friday night on Blackhawk Courts, but their wins weren't quite enough as the Presidents left town with a 5-2 victory. Geneva dropped to 4-4 overall, 1-3 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play, while W&J improved to an impressive 6-1 overall, 3-1 in the PAC.
W&J won all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, but not without a fight from the Golden Tornadoes. DeSanzo and Estes lost 7-5 in No. 1 doubles, while senior CeJaelyn Perednia and junior Rachel Hodson also fell 7-5 in No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, DeSanzo won 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 singles to continue her impressive sophomore campaign. Estes won in No. 2 singles in three sets after dropping the first set 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Abigail Anderson was close to earning a point in No. 5 singles before succumbing in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 5-7.
The women have a quick turnaround to Saturday's match at Penn State Altoona. That contest is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m., less than 15 hours after the completion of Friday night's match.
