BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team dropped a straight set decision to Chatham on Saturday night inside Metheny Fieldhouse, falling 25-21, 25-9, 25-21. The women are now 3-14 overall, 0-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
Geneva grabbed a quick 4-2 lead in the first set behind a kill from senior Emily Nelson and an ace from Heather Seubert. Chatham responded with three straight points, and Geneva was forced to play from behind most of the rest of the way. The Cougars scored four straight points midway through the set to take a 15-11 lead. Geneva got back-to-back aces from senior Abigail Glumac to pull within one point, 15-14, but the Golden Tornadoes could not pull even and eventually lost the set, 25-21.
The second set got away from Geneva early, with Chatham grabbing a quick 7-1 lead. Things never got better for the Golden Tornadoes as the Cougars pulled away for a 25-9 win.
Geneva again fell behind in the third set, this time 9-4, forcing the Golden Tornadoes to again play from behind. The women battled to stay close, but Geneva never got closer than three points the remainder of the set and fell 25-21.
Geneva was unable to get its attack going, with the Golden Tornadoes finishing with an .010 hitting percentage. Junior Katie Seboe led the team with seven kills. Seubert had a team-high 14 digs. Sophomore Laura Goonewardene led the team with 16 assists.
The women will return to action on Wednesday with a match at Grove City at 7:00 p.m.
