BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva women's basketball team grabbed their second win in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play as the GTs' balanced offense triumphed over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 73-71. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 5-10 overall, 2-4 in the PAC on Saturday afternoon in Metheny Fieldhouse, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-9, 2-4 in the PAC.

Regan Kerr hit a layup within the starting seconds, creating a lead for the Golden Tornadoes that lasted the majority of the first quarter. Three-pointers from senior

Averi Marshall aided Geneva's offense throughout the quarter. The Yellow Jackets broke the GTs' press to gain the lead with a minute left, but a layup from senior
Emily Garvin gave the women a 24-23 edge to the end the first quarter.
The second quarter stayed even, with both teams struggling to find the bottom of the net. Geneva scored majority of their points in the final minute, including a dagger three-pointer from Shoaff, and a jumper from freshman
Kira Bonanno tied up the score, 35-35, going into the half.
Garvin snagged the lead for the women two minutes into the third period with back-to-back layups. Both teams applied pressure to force turnovers throughout the quarter. The Golden Tornadoes' offense provided life toward the end of the frame as freshman
Kassandra Garcia, Kerr, and sophomore
Arionna White added triples to put the GTs up 55-51 to end the quarter.
Geneva kept the momentum going into the fourth, as layups from Marshall and Garvin propelled the GTs to a ten-point lead, 64-54. Turnovers and fouls allowed the Yellow Jackets to create a two-possession game, 64-60, with three minutes to go. Junior
Aizlyn Thompson notched five points late in the period by way of a layup and a three, and some key free throws from the Golden Tornadoes held off the Yellow Jackets for a 73-71 victory.
Garvin led the way for the women, contributing 15 points, six assists and four steals. Sophomore
Destanie McCullough added ten points, with five Golden Tornadoes contributing at least seven points. Kerr led the GTs in rebounds with ten.
Kalista Friday and Julz Mohrbacher headed up the Yellow Jackets' effort with 16 and 13 points, respectfully, and the later added 15 rebounds.
The Golden Tornadoes are back on the road on Wednesday, January 21
st against the Westminster Titans at 5:30 pm.
