Women’s Tennis Sees Season End at Franciscan in PAC Quarterfinals

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva women's tennis team traveled to Franciscan on Tuesday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Quarterfinal matchup with the No. 4 Barons, and the Golden Tornadoes came up a little short in falling 4-2.  Geneva closes its season at 6-6 overall, with a couple spring matches likely to occur next semester.

The women got off to a great start in doubles play, winning the doubles point.  Junior Chloe DeSanzo and senior Rachel Hodsden won 6-2 in No. 1 doubles, while senior Caroline Reed and sophomore Abigail Anderson took No. 2 doubles 6-4 to secure the doubles point.  Senior Paris Silverstein and Paige Phillips were tied 5-5 in No. 3 doubles, but once the doubles point was won, the teams moved onto singles play.

DeSanzo, as she has done all season, made quick work of her No. 1 singles opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0 to give Geneva the second point of the night.  Unfortunately, the women couldn't come up with any more victories in singles action.  Hodsden split her first two sets in No. 3 singles, but the match was called once Franciscan secured its fourth point of the match to secure the victory.

"We got off to a great start in doubles action," said Head Coach Nate Heidengren.  "Chloe wrapped up her terrific season with a dominant victory in No. 1 singles, but we couldn't build off that in the other singles flights.  Our seniors have contributed greatly to our program, and we are sad to see them leave.  We're grateful for all they've done over their four years with us."
