Women’s Volleyball Honors Trio in Senior Night Match with Bethany

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's volleyball team honored its trio of seniors, Daphne Alexander, Gracyn Lee and Katie Seboe, prior to its match with Bethany on Friday night inside Metheny Fieldhouse.  Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes couldn't finish off the evening with a victory over the Bison, losing 25-19, 25-19, 25-18.

Geneva jumped ahead briefly in set one, 4-2, getting a kill from freshman Sarah Elkins and double block from Lee and Seboe.  The women got back-to-back kills from sophomore Kendall Anderson a couple minutes later to maintain a lead, 6-5, but the Bison took control of the set from there.  Bethany regained the lead and eventually stretched its advantage to 19-12.  Geneva answered with five straight points to pull within two, but the Bison closed out the set 25-19.

Bethany jumped ahead 8-4 in set two before Geneva responded with a 5-1 run, getting an ace from Alexander and two from sophomore Ruthie Land, to pull even at 9-9.  Kills from Lee and Elkins gave Geneva its first lead of the set, 12-11, and a couple minutes later, another kill from Elkins extended the margin to 18-16.  Unfortunately, Bethany scored the next six points, eventually closing the set on a 9-1 run to win 25-19.

An early kill in set three from Seboe gave Geneva a 6-3 lead in the next set, and two kills from Elkins and an ace from freshman Caitlyn Wolfe a couple minutes later kept the margin at three, 10-7.  However, Bethany scored the next five points and eventually stretched the Bison advantage to 18-13, and the Golden Tornadoes couldn't rebound in falling 25-18.

The women struggled again in the attack, a challenge for the Golden Tornadoes throughout the last month, finishing as a team with a .009 hitting percentage, posting 24 kills and 23 errors.  Elkins led the team with seven kills, while Alexander added six kills.  Freshman Kyla Kephart led the team with 11 assists, while Land finished with 10 assists and a team-high 15 digs.

Geneva will return to action on Wednesday when the women host Thiel at 7:00 p.m.
