BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's tennis team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Thursday with a 6-1 victory at home over Thiel. Geneva is now 3-1 on the season, 1-0 in PAC action.
Thiel had only five players available to play on Thursday, so the Tomcats forfeited both the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches. In the other two doubles matches, senior Braiden Smalley and freshman Joseph Kenneally won 6-0 in No. 1 doubles and sophomore Ben Busler and freshman Luke Crawford won 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Smalley lost a tough match in a third-set tiebreaker in No. 1 singles, but Geneva won the other four singles matches. Busler won 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 singles, Kenneally won 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, Crawford won 6-0, 6-2 in No. 4 singles, and junior Thayne Bodenmiller's opponent in No. 5 singles retired after Bodenmiller took the first set, 6-0.
The men are back in action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. match at Saint Vincent.
