ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Geneva men's tennis team crossed the state border to take on Mount Union in a non-conference contest Saturday afternoon, falling to the Purple Raiders 5-2. Despite being competitive in their last three matches, the GTs have yet to win since their conference play-opening sweep of Thiel. Their record now stands at 3-4 overall, 1-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Senior
Braiden Smalley and freshman
Evan Hancock combined to win the No. 2 doubles match for Geneva, 6-3, but it proved to be the only victory the men could gain in doubles play. They lost matches in the other two doubles flights, and the Purple Raiders won the doubles point as a result.
Smalley emerged victorious again in singles competition, winning his top flight match in three sets 2-6, 6-4, 7(7)-6(4). Junior
Thayne Bodenmiller also won in No. 4 singles, taking his match 6-2, 6-1. Those were the only points Geneva won as a team as they fell 5-2.
The Golden Tornadoes return to their home courts on Monday, March 30, when they will host Westminster College at 5:30 p.m. The men defeated Westminster 5-2 in their fall season.
