ALLIANCE, Ohio – In the opening match of their spring season, the Geneva women's tennis team dropped a non-conference contest to the University of Mount Union, 5-2. The spring semester is the main season for the Purple Raiders, who have played twice this spring already, while it was the first match of the offseason for the GTs. Even still, the women stayed competitive throughout.
As was the case through much of the fall season, sophomore
Chloe DeSanzo and senior
Lauren Estes proved to be formidable competition in the No. 1 doubles slot, winning their match 6-2. Unfortunately, neither of the other two doubles teams could manage a victory, giving the Purple Raiders the doubles point as the host team won two out of three.
DeSanzo and Estes were the winners for the women on the singles side as well. The sophomore DeSanzo won the No. 1 singles match 7-5, 6-1, while Estes coasted to a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the second flight. Junior
Rachel Hodsden played a competitive first set in the No. 3 slot, going to a tiebreaker, but eventually lost to her Mount Union opponent.
Geneva is scheduled to play once more this semester, hosting Pitt-Greensburg on March 18 at 6:00 p.m.
