FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Geneva baseball team opened its spring break trip to Fort Myers with a loss Monday afternoon, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1. Despite an outstanding effort on the mound from junior
Jason Triscila, the Golden Tornadoes struggled to score as the bats remained quiet for most of the game. With the loss, their overall record falls to 3-2 on the year.
A double and a single back-to-back by the Warriors in the top of the first inning gave WLC a 1-0 lead right from the get-go. That proved to be the only earned run Triscila would give up for the rest of the contest as he settled into a rhythm afterward.
The Golden Tornadoes didn't get their first hit of the game until sophomore
Simon Wehr reached on a single up the middle of the infield in the third inning. Unfortunately, Wisconsin Lutheran starter Cody Frederick remained poised, recovering well to keep Geneva scoreless. He wound up allowing just one unearned run, which came in the sixth inning after junior
Bradley McGuire scored from second base on a throwing error by the WLC shortstop. It was the only run Geneva scored for the remainder of the game, as the Warriors took the win 3-1.
Triscila pitched 6.0 superb innings, striking out six batters and allowing just two runs, one earned. Senior
Ryan Conover and sophomore
Jack Barrett also pitched well, combining for three innings of relief and just one unearned run. Sophomore
Marco Chenet was the only Geneva player with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4. Junior
Michael Twigg stole two bases in the loss.
The GTs will look to rebound right away, turning around quickly to face the University of Valley Forge tomorrow, March 10, at 9:00 a.m.
