WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Geneva men's soccer team controlled the match from start to finish in their win against Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon, defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-0 on the road. A first-half goal by junior
Luke Main put the GTs ahead, and they expanded that advantage with two goals in the second half. It was the first win of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) season for the men, who move to 2-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the PAC following the victory, while Waynesburg drops to 2-2-2 overall, 0-0-1 in PAC play.
The Golden Tornadoes looked good right from the opening kickoff, controlling possession in the first half while forcing the Yellow Jackets to drop back and defend deep in their own end. Geneva's first good look came in the 21
st minute when the ball fell to freshman
Mark Bence at the top of the 18-yard box. Bence put a good foot to the ball, driving it toward the top left corner of the net, but a brilliant diving save by the Waynesburg goalkeeper kept the match scoreless.
Despite their advantage in possession, the GTs had to wait until the 41
st minute to finally score. On a free kick from 25 yards out, Main drove a ball low and across the face of the net, beating the Waynesburg keeper to the back post and giving Geneva a 1-0 advantage, which they kept through the halftime whistle.
The men doubled their lead just ten minutes into the second frame. Sophomore
Msafiri Amisi found himself with a loose ball on the left wing, and after taking the ball to the endline he crossed a pass back toward the top of the box. Sophomore
Luke Kost used his head to redirect the ball underneath the diving keeper, making the score 2-0.

Travis Miller completed the scoring in the 76
th minute, taking advantage of a missed clearance by the Waynesburg goalkeeper and calmly slotting the ball just inside the near post of the empty net to cap off the afternoon for Geneva.
The Golden Tornadoes outshot the hosts 24 to 6 in their victory, hitting the target 13 times compared to Waynesburg's two shots on goal. Geneva also won the corner kick battle 11-1. Freshman goalkeeper
Eli Stasiowski made two saves to earn the shutout.
The men are scheduled to play just once next week, hosting Hiram College on Wednesday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m. After that, they will have a week break before playing Westminster, with that match also taking place on Reeves Field.
