Men's Cross Country

Otto and Men’s Cross Shine at YSU Collegiate Invitational

CANFIELD, Ohio – Junior Matt Otto, along with the entire Geneva's men's cross country team, shined on Saturday at the YSU Collegiate Invitational, running on the same course that the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship meet will be held at in November.  Competing against a handful of PAC schools, along with Division I opponents Youngstown State and Robert Morris, the men held their own in the field of 64 runners, with the Golden Tornadoes placing four runners in the top 21 finishers, despite missing one of their top runners.

Otto highlighted the efforts for Geneva, finishing third overall with a time 26:34, not far behind the top two finishers, who were both Division I runners.  Freshman Tyler Caron also placed very highly, finishing sixth overall with a time of 27:03.  Both runners defeated several Division I runners.

Sophomore Drew Steffler also ran well, placing 19th with a time of 27:58.  Sophomore Xaver Alexander was close behind Steffler, finishing 21st with a time of 28:06.  Geneva's fifth-place finisher was freshman Matthew Beaver, coming in 31st with a time of 29:14.

Saturday's performance again puts Geneva in line to be a favorite for the PAC Championship meet early in November, as the men finished well ahead of the other PAC schools at the meet.  The cross country team will be off next week before racing again at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, October 10.
