Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Miller’s Goal against Westminster Gives Men Third Straight Shutout Victory

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College men's soccer team's recent surge continued on Wednesday night on Reeves Field when sophomore Travis Miller's early goal carried the Golden Tornadoes to a convincing 1-0 victory over Westminster, Geneva's third straight victory and third straight clean sheet.  The men improved to 4-2-1 overall, 3-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and jumped over the Titans into second place in the PAC standings, who suffered their first conference defeat and now stand at 4-3-3 overall, 2-1-2 in the conference.

Geneva dominated the match from the outset, and the Golden Tornadoes broke through in the ninth minute when sophomore Msafiri Amisi sent a ball through the Titan defense and into the box where Miller ran onto the pass and slotted a shot inside the far post.

Geneva continued to have all the possession throughout the first half, with Westminster rarely possessing the ball in Geneva's half of the field.  The Titans were forced to simply send clearing balls down the field to try to alleviate the Golden Tornado pressure.  Amisi and Miller continued to be a problem for Westminster's backline to deal with, but despite several more good chances, the Golden Tornadoes couldn't capitalize and went into the break with a 1-0 lead.  Geneva held a 13-1 advantage in shots at the break.

The game followed a similar path throughout the second half, with Geneva unable to find a second goal but the Golden Tornado defense completely locking down the Titan offense.  The men safely saw the game out for the 1-0 victory.

Geneva finished the game with a 21-4 advantage in shots, 8-1 in shots on goal, along with a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.  Freshman goalkeeper Eli Stasiowski earned his fourth shutout of the season, being called on to make just one save with Geneva's standout defensive back line of sophomores Nick Lo Coco and Logan Pappert, and freshmen Landon Bronson and Finnley McCarty, along with junior central defensive midfielder Luke Main, suffocating the Westminster attack.

Geneva travels on Saturday to W&J for another important PAC matchup.  Currently the Golden Tornadoes sit in second place behind Grove City in the PAC standings, with Hiram, Westminster and W&J right behind Geneva in the standings.  The men have already defeated Hiram and Westminster this season.  If the Golden Tornadoes can defeat W&J, they put themselves in a great early spot to potentially secure one of the two PAC playoff byes.  The start time for Saturday's match at W&J is 1:00 p.m.
