Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Geneva Men Fall at Bethany

Bethany, WV—The Geneva College men's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play by traveling to Bethany College on Wednesday night.  The evening started well for the Golden Tornadoes, but they couldn't hold on and lost, 70-60.  Geneva fell to 2-3 overall, 0-1 in the PAC, while Bethany picked up its first win on the season to improve to 1-5, 1-0 in the PAC.

Geneva got off to a great start as they jumped on Bethany early, racing out to a 21-8 lead.  Bethany responded by slowly cutting into the lead, and when the two teams went to the locker-room at halftime, Geneva led just 30-28.  Sophomore Ethan Moose led the team with 12 points in the half, while sophomore Noah Damazo added 6 points.

Geneva started the second half cold, and Bethany took advantage by scoring the first seven points of the half to take a 36-30 lead, the first time the Bison had led all night.  It proved to be the only lead change of the game.  Over the next 12 minutes the Bethany lead fluctuated between two and six points, with Bethany unable to pull away, but Geneva unable to take the lead back.

With five minutes remaining, Bethany began to pull away as Geneva went eight straight possessions without scoring, and when Geneva finally scored on a Moose free throw with less than two minutes to go, Geneva was down 66-57, and it never threatened again, losing 70-60.

"I thought we battled tonight," Head Coach Jeff Santarsiero stated.  "We got in a bit of foul trouble, but we fought hard.  Again we have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball."

Geneva was led by Moose, who carried the load offensively with 25 points and 9 rebounds.  Senior Jimmy Leichliter added 14 points.  Geneva's struggles from 3-point range continued as the Golden Tornadoes shot under 30% again, going just 4-16 on long range shots.

Geneva travels to Thiel College on Saturday, December 2, for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.  The Golden Tornadoes come back home on Wednesday, December 6, when they welcome Washington & Jefferson for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
