WASHINGTON, Pa. – It has been a rough week for the Geneva College men's soccer team. After a dramatic win over Westminster last Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes have now lost two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games in a row after Geneva dropped a 1-0 decision at Washington & Jefferson on Friday evening. It is the first time since 2013 that the Golden Tornadoes have lost back-to-back PAC games. W&J improved to 4-7-1, 2-1 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 5-7-1, 2-3 in the PAC.
Neither team could find the net in the first half, though W&J managed to outshoot Geneva 8-3 in the half. Despite that advantage, the Golden Tornadoes kept the Presidents off the board as the two teams went to halftime scoreless.
The lone goal of the game came in the 70
th minute when Matt Kotkiewicz found the back of the net to put W&J up. At that point Geneva began to turn up the pressure in search of an equalizer. Unfortunately for the Golden Tornadoes, one never came, despite outshooting W&J 6-2 in the half.
While W&J outshot Geneva 10-9 in the game, the Golden Tornadoes had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Junior
Jake Broadwick (McKees Rocks, Pa./Robinson Township Christian) led the offense with three shots, including two on goal. Senior
Luke Nolan (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) got the start in goal and he finished with three saves.
Geneva takes a break from PAC action on Tuesday when it travels to Alfred State for a 4:00 p.m. match. Geneva's next PAC game is at Thiel on Friday, starting at 6:30 p.m. With the loss today, each remaining PAC game becomes essential to win for the Golden Tornadoes if they have plans to advance to the PAC playoffs.
