Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Geneva Cruises Past Chatham For Conference “W”

Pittsburgh, PA – At times throughout the 2018 season, the Geneva College women's volleyball team has had trouble closing out matches. On Tuesday night, there were no such troubles as the Golden Tornadoes cruised to a 3-0 victory at Chatham University. The victory pushed Geneva's overall record to 13-10, including a 7-6 record within the conference. Meanwhile, Chatham fell to 6-18 and 2-11 in the PAC.

Geneva is trying to position itself for the PAC tournament in two weeks and needs every victory it can get down the stretch to not only secure a play-off spot but try to find its way to a first round home match once the post-season gets underway.

On Tuesday, Geneva dominated play from the opening whistle with set scores of 25-21, 25-13, 25-19. While the Cougars challenged Geneva in the opening set, the Golden Tornadoes put down 11 kills with only two errors in the second set to take control of the match.

Sydney McNulty led the offense with 12 kills and a hitting percentage of .294. Kacey Costal added seven kills to contribute to the offensive cause. Daphne Hunsinger was her usual consistent self with a team best 20 kills, 13 digs and a pair of solo blocks. McNulty added 12 digs to assist on the defensive end of the court.

"It was a solid night," said head coach Wendy Smith. "We need to take care of our own business the rest of the way and see where things fall. I like the way we are improving each and every day and hopefully we will be playing our best volleyball when it really counts."

Geneva will head back to Metheny Fieldhouse on Thursday night to take on Washington & Jefferson in what proves to be a very crucial match for PAC seeding purposes. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm. Prior to Thursday's match, Geneva will be honoring its senior class that includes Allyssa Kerr, McKenna Shick and McNulty.
