Beaver Falls, PA – On a brisk fall night, fans were happy to come indoors to a packed Metheny Fieldhouse to celebrate Geneva College women's volleyball senior student-athletes. Although, the team had more in mind than just a celebration as the late regular season opponent was the number two ranked team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, the Washington and Jefferson Presidents. In the previous match-up the Presidents stole the match in a 3-2 victory after Geneva won the first two sets in confident fashion.
Geneva jumped out to an early lead in the first set winning 25-20. Unfortunately, the second set brought struggles, racking up multiple service errors that continued to keep the Presidents alive. The exciting marathon set ended with W&J stealing a 32-30 win to even things up. Geneva struggled through the next two sets finally losing the match 3-1. With the loss Geneva drops to 13-11 overall and 7-7 in the PAC.
Sydney McNulty (State College, PA/ State College Area), had a strong day for the GTs leading the charge with 15 kills and 25 digs on her senior day. Coach
Wendy Smith said, "Sydney played great tonight along with the other seniors. We have a young team and I'm really impressed with the way they battled throughout the match. W&J is a great team and we had too many mistakes at key times. I'm truly proud of the way the seniors worked to lead the younger players in a high intensity match."
