BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – In the last home match of the fall season for the Geneva College women's tennis team, the Golden Tornadoes battled a strong Washington & Jefferson squad at Blackhawk Courts, but Geneva eventually fell, 7-2. It was a match that was originally scheduled for two weeks ago but had been rescheduled twice due to rain. W&J improved to 8-5 overall, 6-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Geneva fell to 6-5, 3-3 in the PAC.
Geneva was only able to pick up two points in the match, and junior
Jana Newberry (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was at the center of both of those. She teamed with sophomore
Felicity Orndoff (New Stanton, Pa./Greensburg Catholic Central) in #2 doubles to pick up an 8-1 win. Then in #6 singles, Newberry won 6-1, 6-0.
"We came up against a very tough team tonight," Head Coach
Mandee Craft said. "We fought, but it wasn't enough this time."
Geneva has one final regular season match on Wednesday at Saint Vincent, starting at 3:30 p.m. The Golden Tornadoes will then begin play in the PAC playoffs next week against a team that is yet to be determined.
