Women’s Soccer Loses at Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team made the one hour trip south on Tuesday night to take on Point Park University in its last game before Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play begins, and a bad second half doomed the Golden Tornadoes in the 4-1 loss.  Point Park improved to 5-4, while Geneva fell to 4-5.

Point Park got on the board first in the 10th minute when the Pioneers corralled a rebound off a shot, and Tatum Fabian put it into the back of the net to give the host team a 1-0 lead.  Geneva responded quickly, though, as senior Megan Schoeneweis (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) scored in the 16th minute from a shot outside the box that sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the net to even the score.  That's where things stayed heading into the halftime break.

Point Park took control of the match with two goals five minutes apart midway through the second half, and Geneva could never respond.  The Pioneers added a goal on a penalty kick with two minutes remaining for the final score, 4-1.

"I thought we played well for a half," Head Coach Linda Sumner said.  "We just couldn't sustain things in the second half.  We made too many mistakes, and once Point Park retook the lead in the second half, things just sort of snowballed on us.  We'll take what we can out of this one and look forward to beginning PAC play on Saturday."

The final score was reflected in the shot totals, as for only the third time this season, Geneva was outshot, this time by a 19-6 margin, including a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Junior goalkeeper Danielle Lincoln (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) made eight stops on the night.

Geneva will return home to open PAC play on Saturday when the Golden Tornadoes welcome Bethany for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
