BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team took care of business on Thursday night, sweeping through a struggling Thiel College squad, 9-0. Geneva improved to 5-3 overall, 3-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Thiel fell to 0-7, 0-3 in the PAC.
The Golden Tornadoes made quick work of the Tomcats, winning all three doubles matches while only giving up a combined four points. That enabled Head Coach
Mandee Craft to spread the playing time around in the singles action, and Geneva fared just as well, winning all six flights in straight sets. Senior
Katherine Deitrick (Beaver, Pa./Beaver), junior
Victoria Hinds (Montrose, Pa./Montrose), and sophomore
Felicity Orndoff (New Stanton, Pa/Greensburg Catholic Central) all picked up two wins in the match.
"We showed a lot of strong play today from top to bottom," Coach Craft said afterwards. "With possible rain coming, we only took a brief warmup, so it was imperative that we started out mentally ready. We did that quite well in doubles, and then we carried that momentum throughout singles."
Geneva will travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday for two non-conference matches. The Golden Tornadoes will play Cedarville at 1:00 p.m., and then follow that up with a match against Mount Vernon Nazarene at 5:30 p.m.
