HAMBURG, NY – This weekend couldn't have gone much better for the Geneva College women's soccer team. Less than one day after defeating Medaille College, 4-0, the Golden Tornadoes duplicated the feat by defeating Hilbert College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon, making it a very successful trip to New York over the last two days. Geneva improved to 2-2, while Hilbert fell to 0-4.
Geneva picked up where it left off last night by putting immediate pressure on the Hilbert defense, and the Golden Tornadoes finally broke through when senior
Megan Schoeneweis got Geneva on the board with a goal in the 38
th minute. That's where the scored stayed going into the halftime break.
Schoeneweis struck again in the 67
th minute when she scored off a restart. Sophomore
April Mann put the game away in the 81
st minute with a header off a corner from Schoeneweis, and freshman
Lexi Dell added a goal in the 87
th minute for the final margin, 4-0.
Geneva again put up an impressive 32 shots, including 17 shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Danielle Lincoln didn't get a lot of action on the afternoon, but she still managed to make three saves, giving the goalie her second shutout in as many days.
"This was a really successful trip for us, especially with the quick turnaround today," Head Coach
Linda Sumner said. "Our offense really came alive this weekend, and I feel like this team is really starting to improve. We need to continue to get better, though, and the team knows that, especially as we finish up our nonconference games and prepare for Presidents' Athletic Conference play."
Geneva returns home and will face Oberlin College next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Oberlin comes into that contest with a 1-3 record.
