BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team stepped out of conference play for a match against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Monday night, but the Golden Tornadoes were not able to overcome the visiting Cougars, losing 6-3. Mount Vernon Nazarene improved to 2-6, while Geneva fell to 3-2.
In doubles action, seniors
Victoria Hoal (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) and
Bekah Locke (Atwater, Ohio/Marlington) picked up a win in #2 doubles, 8-3. Senior
Rachael Letterman (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) got things even in #1 singles with a straight set victory, but Geneva managed only one other win, coming from sophomore
Mady Paquet (Ellsworth, Wisc./Ellsworth) in #6 singles. Hoal lost a tough three-set match in #3 singles.
"I honestly can't say enough about how we played today," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Mount Vernon is a solid scholarship program, and we were in the match from the beginning to the end. We showed so much heart today."
Geneva returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night when it hosts Westminster at 6:30 p.m. at Blackhawk Courts.
