BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Westminster on Wednesday night at Blackhawk Courts. The Titans came into the match with a perfect record, and they extended their season-opening stretch with an 8-1 victory over Geneva. Westminster improve to 7-0, 2-0 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 3-3, 1-2 in the PAC.
Westminster came out strong in doubles action and swept all three matches. The Titans also cruised through most of the singles matches. Senior
Jana Newberry (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was the only Golden Tornado to pick up a point when she came back in #4 singles after dropping the first set, earning a three-set victory 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
"We have nothing to hang our heads about tonight," said Head Coach
Mandee Craft. "Our doubles teams fought for every point, and Jana's win was especially impressive. Battling back from a set down is never easy, but she played well from start to finish."
Geneva will be back in action next Thursday, September 26, when it travels to Waynesburg for a match at 4:00 p.m.
