EDINBORO, Pa. – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams headed north on Saturday to take part in the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro University, a meet consisting of mainly NCAA Division II schools, and several Golden Tornadoes turned in strong performances at the meet.
 
The women were led by sophomore Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) who had missed the first two meets of the year due to a minor injury, so she made her season debut on Saturday, and the reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) hurdles champion did not disappoint.  She came in first in the 60m hurdles race with a time of 9.47 seconds.
 
A couple other women had a strong throwing day.  Junior Anna Ormsby (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) had a personal best throw in the weight throw with a distance of 11.36m, good enough for 11^th.  Sophomore Morgan Lingle (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton) also had a strong throw in the shot put, finishing in 12^th place with a distance of 11.22m.
 
"For the women, considering this was Liv's (Younger) first meet back, to win and run the top time in the PAC is impressive," said Head Coach Phil Thompson.  "Also, Anna and Morgan lead us in the throws and moved up the rankings in the PAC with their efforts."
 
For the men, junior Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) turned in a strong day.  He finished 2^nd in the 200m with a time of 22.46 seconds, and he came in 5^th in the 60m with a time of 7.16 seconds.  Junior Ryan Kennell (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) finished 5^th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.23 seconds.  Also in the sprints, freshman Nick Bailey (Chippewa Lake, Ohio/Cloverleaf) finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 53.58 seconds.
 
In the middle distances, senior Micah Daigneault (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) finished third in the 800m with a time of 2:01.86.  Sophomore Caleb Schaelchlin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) finished 6^th in the mile with a time of 4:39.77.
 
For the throws, sophomore Giovanni Segura (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood-Clarion) had a strong day, finishing 5^th in the shot put with a distance of 13.32m and 10^th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.48m.  In addition, freshman Manny Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.83m.
 
"Dom (Data) was really good for us today," added Coach Thompson.  "He had top times in both the 60m and 200m races.  Ryan (Kennell) also had a big day in the hurdles, putting him near the top in the PAC.  And Gio (Segura) just continues to get better in the throws."
 
"Overall, both teams had a strong meet today," he added.  "I was very pleased with our results and how hard the team competed.  Their hard work is starting to pay off."
 
Both teams get back into action next weekend when they head to the Youngstown State National Mid-Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
