YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) is not having an official indoor track and field season this year, but that doesn't prevent schools from competing in meets if they have the opportunity. On Saturday, several Geneva College men and women competed at the Youngstown State Mid Major event.
The decision by the PAC to not have an indoor season was due partly to the fact that no school in the PAC has an indoor facility, and the conference had trouble securing full use of an indoor facility from other schools in the area, with all of the increased restrictions due to the pandemic. The PAC did encourage any schools that felt comfortable to allow their student-athletes to compete in local indoor meets, and Geneva took advantage of that opportunity this weekend.
For the women, junior
Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) led the way with a 4
th place finish in the 60m hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.30 seconds. Junior
Judi McChesney (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver County Christian) also turned in a strong performance in the triple jump, finishing 6
th overall with a distance of 9.88m.
For the men, senior
Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), finished 3
rd overall in the 200m with a time of 22.53 seconds. Senior
Stephen Nelson (Orono, Maine/Orono) finished 4
th in the 400m with a time of 52.50 seconds. Senior
Ryan Kennell (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) came in 5

"I was very pleased with everyone's performance," said Head Coach
Phil Thompson. "We haven't competed in almost a year, so I thought we would be a little nervous, but everyone came out and performed really well. We had some times that rank in the top 10 in the country so far, so that's a great start. It was just great to get out there and watch them compete. It's been a long road for these athletes, and I know they are happy to be back out there."
Members of the Geneva track and field team are planning to compete in additional indoor meets in the coming weeks, assuming they are cleared to participate, and those meets will be announced as they get approved.
