Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First-Half Stretch Dooms Women’s Soccer against Chatham

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – For a significant stretch of the night on Wednesday, the Geneva College women's soccer team played Chatham fairly competitively, who came into the game undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  Unfortunately, a three-minute stretch in the first half saw the Cougars score three times, and Chatham used that to leave town with a 4-0 victory.  Chatham improved to 7-3-1 overall, 5-0 in the PAC, while Geneva dropped to 3-10, 2-3 in the PAC.

Chatham almost got onto the board two minutes into the game when Olivia Wood's shot hit the post.  After that, Geneva seemed to settle down, and though the Golden Tornadoes struggled to generate much offense in the final third, they still held possession and played defense well for the first 30 minutes.

However, in the 32nd minute Morgan Anderson, last year's PAC Player of the Year, ran onto a ball over the top, and after cutting back to elude one defender, she scored from five yards out to put Chatham on the board.  Just a minute later, Anderson struck again, and less than two minutes later, Greta Mort scored for the Cougars to make it 3-0 in a stretch of less than three minutes.  Chatham used that flurry to take a 3-0 lead into the break, outshooting Geneva 12-2 in the half.

The Golden Tornadoes largely played Chatham even in the second half, with sophomore Katie Bodenmiller (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy and Central) and junior Katherine Estep (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) registering good shots on goal that were saved.  The Cougars found one more goal in the 73rd minute to finish out the scoring, 4-0.  The shot totals in the second half were even at 5-5.

For the game Chatham outshot Geneva 17-7, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.  Freshman Jade Farnsworth (New Brighton, Pa./Riverside) made five saves.

Geneva has now played the top four teams in the conference in its five PAC games.  With the PAC expanding the playoffs to six teams this season, Geneva will have a chance to play itself into the playoffs.  The Golden Tornadoes have a huge home game coming up on Saturday against a Saint Vincent team that is tied with Geneva for sixth place in the conference.  The game is slated to kick off at 4:30 p.m.
