Women’s Soccer Falls to Chatham in PAC Quarterfinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – It's been a season of perseverance for the Geneva College women's soccer team under first-year Head Coach Kelsey Morrison.  The short-handed Golden Tornadoes, who struggled with season-ending injuries to key starters and significant COVID issues early in the season, still managed to advance into the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) playoffs for the first time in program history where Geneva dropped a 4-0 decision to Chatham on Saturday afternoon.  Geneva finishes its season with a 5-13 record, while Chatham improved to 10-5-1 and advanced to the PAC semifinals.

The higher-seeded Cougars controlled most of the possession during the game, and Chatham got on the board in the 14th minute off the foot of Greta Mort.  The Cougars doubled their lead on a goal from Malia Hinton with less than two minutes remaining in the half, a damaging goal which gave Chatham a 2-0 lead going into the half.

Chatham scored again in the 54th minute to take full control of the match, and the Cougars finished off the scoring eight minutes later with another goal.  Geneva was never able to crack the net and Chatham finished off the shutout, 4-0.

Chatham finished the game with a 22-7 advantage in shots, including a 17-5 edge in shots on goal.  Freshman Jade Farnsworth (New Brighton, Pa./Riverside) had a strong game in goal for Geneva, finishing with 13 saves.

The loss ends the career of senior Lexi Meese (Sarver, Pa./Freeport), the lone senior on this year's team and one of the team's leaders and top scorers.  Geneva has a strong group of underclassmen returning, though, and Coach Morrison will look to build upon the foundation she has established this season.
