GREENVILLE, Pa. – It was a very successful opening to the Geneva College men's and women's indoor track and field season on Friday at the Youngstown State Icebreaker, and three Golden Tornadoes received weekly awards on Monday when the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its awards. Seniors Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), Giovanni Segura (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) and Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) all were highlighted for their performances last week.
Data was named the PAC Men's Track Performer of the Week after he finished fifth overall in the 200-meter race at a very competitive meet at Youngstown State that included several NCAA Division I and Division II schools, running a time of 21.97 seconds (adjusted to 22.37 seconds). That time is the third best time in Division III this season. He also ran the 60-meter race in 7.04 seconds, finishing 16th overall. That time is the 29th best time in Division III.
Segura was named the PAC Men's Field Performer of the Week for his performance in the weight throw and the shot put. He finished 11th overall in the weight throw with a toss of 13.84 meters, while he placed 24th overall in the shot put with a distance of 12.49 meters.
On the women's side, Younger was named the PAC Women's Track Performer of the Week. She qualified for the finals at the meet in the 60-meter hurdles race with a personal best time of 9.10 seconds in the preliminaries, which is the ninth best time in Division III this season. She finished seventh in the finals of the event with a time of 9.32 seconds, with the race consisting almost completely of Division I runners. Younger also placed 17th in the 60 meters with a time of 8.20 seconds.
The Geneva men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action this Friday when they head back to Youngstown State to compete in the YSU Collegiate Holiday Classic.
