Women’s Tennis Drops Match to Franciscan

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team got its first taste of action with Franciscan University on Wednesday night at Blackhawk Courts, with the Barons playing their first ever Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match after joining the conference this year.  Suffice it to say, the Golden Tornadoes didn't find the flavor very enjoyable, with a very strong Franciscan squad picking up a 9-0 victory.  The Barons improved to 1-1 on the season, 1-0 in the PAC, while Geneva lost for the first time this year and dropped to 2-1 overall, 2-1 in the PAC.

Geneva's best chance to earn a point in the match came in #3 singles, with junior Mady Paquet (Ellsworth, Wisc./Ellsworth) battling before eventually succumbing in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4.

"Even though the score might not reflect it, our ladies fought really hard and I thought played well against a very good Franciscan squad," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "Franciscan is very experienced and very talented, and matches like tonight will only help us improve as this season goes along."

Geneva gets back into action on Saturday when the Golden Tornadoes travel to W&J to take on the Presidents at 2:00 p.m.
