GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College men's track and field team continues to rack up wins this season, the latest coming at the Tomcat Invitational at Thiel College on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes defeated their nearest competitor, Thiel, by over 30 points.
Geneva had several first-place finishes. Sophomore
Josiah Helmer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) won the 3000m steeplechase in 10:32.62, while senior
Jarron Mihoci (Hartstown, Pa./Jamestown) was right behind in second place with a time of 10:45.94. Senior
Stephen Nelson (Orono, Maine/Orono) finished first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.71 seconds. Senior
Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) finished first in the 200m race with a time of 21.96 seconds, the 18th fastest time in NCAA Division III this season. He also added a second-place finish in the 100m in 10.97 seconds.
In addition, Geneva won both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. Seniors
Ryan Kennell (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) and
Adam Hines (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) joined Nelson and Data on the 4x100m relay team with a time of 42.84 seconds. Senior
Caleb Schaelchlin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) joined Kennell, Nelson and Data on the 4x400m relay team with a time of 3:24.62.
Other top finishers included Schaelchlin with a third-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:00.46. Junior
Giovanni Segura (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 12.98 meters, and freshman
Lawiltaye Robinson (Tampa, Fla./Bloomingdale) finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.85 seconds.
"This was another strong performance for both the men and women today," said Head Coach
Phil Thompson. "Everyone continues to improve each week, which shows that their hard work is paying off. We have to continue to put in the work each day and do the little things so we are ready for the PAC Championships at the end of this month. We still have a lot of room to improve, and I know both teams are ready for the challenge."
Next Saturday Geneva heads to Grove City to participate in the Grove City Invitational.
