Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Falls to Titans

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Geneva College women's tennis was defeated by Westminster on Monday night at Brady's Run indoor facility, losing 8-1.  Westminster stayed perfect in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), moving its overall record to 6-1, 6-0 in the PAC, while Geneva fell to 3-4, 3-4 in the PAC.

The rainy afternoon forced the match to be moved indoors from its original location at Blackhawk courts, and Westminster won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-5, 8-1 and 8-3.

The Titans, who came into the match having lost only one point in their five previous PAC matches, continued their strong play in the singles portion of the matches.  Sophomore Laura Lin Comollo, though, was able to earn an impressive win in #6 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2.  Graduate student Jana Newberry (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) also battled in a close match in #3 singles, but she eventually succumbed by a score of 7-5, 6-4.

"Even though the team score is a little one-sided, I though we played well tonight and put up a tough fight at several positions," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "I'm proud of the way we've battled the top teams in the PAC this season."

Geneva finishes its regular season this Friday with a match at Waynesburg beginning at 4:00 p.m.  The PAC playoffs are scheduled to start next week.
