Another Week, Another Win for Men’s Track and Field

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Geneva College men's track and field team earned another win on Saturday at the Grove City College Invitational, picking up their fourth-straight victory in defeating its nearest opponent, Thiel, by over 40 points.

Senior Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) led the way again, finishing in a tie for first place in the 200m with a time of 22.35, while placing second in the 100m with a time of 11.35 seconds.

Sophomore Josiah Helmer (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and senior Christian Valento (Pavilion, N.Y./Pavilion Central) placed first and second in the 3000m steeplechase.  Helmer finished in 10:05.23, and Valento was right behind in 10:08.60.

Senior Stephen Nelson (Orono, Maine/Orono) continued his dominance in the 400m hurdles race, winning with a time of 55.31 seconds.

Freshman Noah Foust (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and junior Giovanni Segura (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) were the top two placers in the discus.  Foust won the event with a throw of 40.29m, while Segura was second with an effort of 39.48m.  Segura also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 12.95m.

Senior Caleb Schaelchlin (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) finished third in the 800m race with a time of 1:59.73, finishing less than a second behind the top two finishers in a very tight race at the end.

"The men and women continue to improve each meet, and I believe we are peaking at the right time," said Head Coach Phil Thompson.  "Next week is a big week for us in our training cycle.  We will have some tough workouts, but our main focus is going to be to get rested up and to get everyone feeling fresh for the upcoming PAC Championships."

The men and women will have a mini meet at Grove City on Wednesday, and then all the PAC schools will prepare for the PAC Championships, a two-day event beginning on Thursday, April 29, and held at West Virginia University.
