CHIPPEWA, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team got into the win column on Saturday afternoon against a short-handed Penn State Beaver squad, with Head Coach
Kelsey Morrison earning her first win as Geneva head coach in a dominating 10-0 victory. It was the most goals the Golden Tornadoes have scored since 2010, when Geneva also defeated Penn State Beaver 10-0. The Golden Tornadoes improved to 1-3, while Penn State Beaver fell to 0-5.
Senior
Lexi Meese (Sarver, Pa./Freeport Area) opened the scoring the 17
th minute. Goals quickly followed by freshman
Abby Shoaff (Bessemer, Pa./Mohawk), junior
Lydia Beare (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Christian) and sophomore
Katie Bodenmiller (Westfield, N.Y./Westfield Academy and Central), giving Geneva a 4-0 lead at the half as the ball rarely went into Geneva's half of the field.
Geneva kept the pressure up in the second half, and more goals followed. Beare scored her second of the match, sophomore
Haydn Wilkins (Williamsport, Pa./Warrior Run) scored, junior
Katherine Estep (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) got on the scoreboard, Shoaff added another, junior
Olivia Mincone (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) scored, and then freshman
Jenna Hartman (Beaver Falls, Pa./Homeschool) finished off the scoring with a goal.
Geneva finished with 49 shots, including 28 on goal, while Penn State Beaver failed to register a shot.
"It was good to get a win under our belts," said Morrison. "We were able to get a lot of players in, especially the freshmen who could use the extended playing time. Hopefully this will give us a little confidence as we move forward."
The women have the week off before they head to Heidelberg University next Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
