Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

W&J Too Strong for Women’s Tennis

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's team couldn't get anything going against visiting W&J on Wednesday evening, as the Presidents proved too strong for the Golden Tornadoes in a 9-0 sweep.  W&J improved to 2-1, 2-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Geneva dropped to 1-2, 1-2 in the PAC.

W&J swept through the doubles portion by scores of 8-4, 8-3 and 8-6, though Geneva competed well in those matches.  The Golden Tornadoes struggled even more in the singles matches, with freshman Delaney Winterhalter (Carnegie, Pa./South Fayette) the only player to have any success.  Winterhalter pushed her match in #5 singles into a third set tiebreaker before eventually falling.

"W&J is a very strong team from top to bottom," said Head Coach Mandee Craft.  "We stayed with them in doubles and played really well, but they were too much for us in singles."

The schedule doesn't get any easier as Geneva heads to Grove City next week for a match on Thursday, September 23, at 4:30 p.m.
