GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team's annual match with Grove City is always a difficult contest every season, with the Wolverines regularly at the top of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). This year's match was no different, with Grove City sweeping Geneva 9-0 on Thursday afternoon. Grove City improved to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the PAC, while the Golden Tornadoes dropped to 1-3, 1-3 in the PAC.
Grove City won the doubles matches, with Geneva only managing nine points combined in the three matches. The singles portion of the contest didn't go much better. Freshman Delaney Winterhalter (Carnegie, Pa./South Fayette) did continue her strong play in #5 singles, winning her first set 6-2 before dropping the second set and falling 11-9 in the tiebreaker.
"We played hard, but it wasn't enough today," said Head Coach Mandee Craft. "Anytime you play a tough team it makes you stronger for the next battle, and we'll be ready for Saturday's match this weekend."
The women will be back on the court on Saturday when they travel to Saint Vincent for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Bearcats.
