Women’s Golf Breaks School Record at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva College women's golf team broke the school record for lowest team score on Monday afternoon at Franciscan in Geneva's victory over the Barons.  The Golden Tornadoes posted a team score of 364 in the match between the two schools, which was an improvement of 19 strokes over their season-opening round last week at the Glenville State Tournament.  Head Coach Andrew Fee trusts this won't be the last time that record gets broken this year.

Sophomore Sarah Theus (Fleming Isle, Fla./Fleming Isle) set a career-best by shooting an 89, which tied for the team lead with freshman Sabienea Winston (Antigua/Antigua State).  Sophomore Anna Kaminski (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg) was third for Geneva with a 91, while sophomore Karly Devaney (Akron, Ohio/Springfield) rounded out Geneva's top four while carding a 95.  Sophomore Hannah Therrell (Barrigada, Guam/Academy of Our Lady of Guam) shot a 96, giving the Golden Tornadoes five golfers under 100, the first time the program has ever done that.

"The golf course was fairly wet today, which made for a slower course, and we had to race to beat the dark," said Fee.  "But overall, I was pleased with the way we shot today.  It was a definite improvement over our first time out last week, and to be able to break the school record is a notable achievement.  Hopefully each time out for the rest of the season that school record will drop a little lower."

The women will have a chance to improve upon that record on Wednesday when the Golden Tornadoes travel to the Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to take on Carlow at 1:00 p.m.
