BEAVER FALLS, Pa. --- The Geneva women's tennis team earned a big Presidents' Athletic Conference victory, 6-3 over Thiel, on Saturday afternoon at the Brady's Run Tennis Courts.
"I thought we picked up our doubles game today and that set us off to a good start for the day," said Geneva head coach
Mandee Craft. "We continued that effort for most of the singles matches too. So this was a solid day for us overall."
The No. 1 doubles team of
Lauren Estes and
Laura Lin Comollo got things started with an 8-3 win. Thiel tied the scoring at 1-1 with a win at No. 3 doubles, but the Golden Tornadoes No. 2 team of
Delaney Winterhalter and
Ella Miller got the win, 8-4, to put Geneva in the 2-1 lead going into singles competition.
Comollo picked up the first singles point at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1, to increase the Geneva lead to 3-1. Estes increased the team lead with a 3-set win at No. 1, 6-2, 1-6, 10-4, before Winterhalter secured the team victory at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Miller won the sixth point at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Geneva (5-4, 2-4 PAC) returns to action on Tuesday, October 4 at Waynesburg and closes out regular season play on Thursday, October 6 against Westminster in Beaver Falls.
