WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Geneva College women's tennis team won its second straight match on Tuesday afternoon with a convincing sweep of Waynesburg, 9-0. The match was the last regular season road contest of the fall season. With the victory, Geneva improved to 6-4 overall, 3-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
The women put themselves in great position when they took all three doubles matches. Senior Laura Lin Comollo (Smyrna, Dela./Polytech) and freshman Lauren Estes (Chattanooga, Tenn./Grace Baptist Academy) won in No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Junior Ella Miller (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) and sophomore Delaney Winterhalter (Carnegie, Pa./South Fayette) took No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while junior Jessica Bout (Paris, Ontario/Hope Reformed) and sophomore Barbora Belanska (Trnava, Slovakia/American Academy of Nicosia) won in No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
In singles action, Estes won in No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0. Winterhalter took No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-1. Comollo won in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0. Freshman CeJaelyn Perednia (Brick, N.J./Performing Arts Academy) took No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Jenna Allison (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington Area) and sophomore Cassy Kehs (Cochranville, Pa./Oxford Area) both swept their matches in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, 6-0, 6-0.
"It was great to get some wins from some new people in the lineup today," said Head Coach Mandee Craft, "as we near the end of our season. It always helps with our depth for the future.
Geneva finishes the regular season on Thursday when the women host Westminster on Blackhawk Courts beginning at 6:00 p.m. A victory would assure the Golden Tornadoes a spot in the PAC playoffs, while a loss leaves their postseason chances up in the air.
