BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 defeat to preseason Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) favorites Westminster on Tuesday night. Geneva dropped to 3-9-2 overall, 1-5 in the PAC, while the Titans improved to 9-3-1, 5-1 in the PAC.
The women played a competitive first half against the Titans, who came into the game smarting from their first PAC regular season loss in almost two seasons, a 2-0 defeat to Franciscan. First Team All-PAC Titan Julia Redilla scored the lone goal of the half in the 17th minute. The half ended with Westminster holding a slim 6-5 edge in shots, while Geneva held a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The second half the Golden Tornadoes, lacking much depth on the roster due to injuries, began to wear down against the Westminster squad who came into the game with over 40 healthy players. The Titans put the game away with two goals two minutes apart 12 minutes into the second half, and that closed out the scoring in the game.
Westminster controlled much of the second half, finishing the game with an 18-10 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The Titans also held an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks, eight coming in the second half. Senior Lydia Beare (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Christian) and sophomore Saige Musser (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) each had three shots for the Golden Tornadoes.
The women head back out onto the road on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest at W&J.
