GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Geneva College women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision at Grove City on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-8-2 overall, 1-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while Grove City improved to 5-6-1, 2-2-1 in the PAC.
It didn't take long for the Wolverines to get on the board, with Grove City's Britta Lagerquist scoring just over three minutes into the game to put Geneva in an early hole.
The Wolverines doubled their lead in the 30th minute before Geneva struck back. Senior Katherine Estep (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) scored just over a minute later to pull the Golden Tornadoes within one, and then the Golden Tornadoes caught a bad break a couple minutes later when sophomore Saige Musser (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) scored to pull Geneva level, but she was mistakenly ruled offside, negating her goal. That missed call really hurt when Grove City added one more goal in the 40th minute to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
Grove City controlled most of the second half, putting the game away with goals in the 58th and 68th minutes to complete the scoring.
Grove City finished with a 27-6 advantage in shots, and a 15-4 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore Jade Farnsworth (New Brighton, Pa./Riverside) made 10 saves for the Golden Tornadoes.
The schedule stays tough for the women, who return home to take on preseason PAC favorite Westminster at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
