CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Geneva College men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Indoor Championships on Saturday at Cedarville University, with senior Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) winning the 200-meter NCCAA Championship, while also breaking the school record in the 60-meter race. In addition, senior Katryn Gatchell (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and freshman Kevin Arseneaux (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) also broke school records at the meet.
Data came into the championships with fastest time of any runner in the 200-meter dash, and he brought home the championship by over a half a second with a time of 21.90 seconds. He also broke his own school record in the 60-meter dash, finishing the preliminaries in 6.93 seconds while placing fifth in the finals with a time of 7.01 seconds. For his efforts, Data was named the NCCAA Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet.
In the mile run, Arseneaux broke the school record with a time of 4:24.24, placing him fifth overall in the race. In addition for the men, sophomore Noah Foust (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) finished ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.49 meters, while freshman Kyle Garman (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) placed ninth in the triple jump with an effort of 12.23 meters.
For the women, Gatchell broke the school record in the 800-meter race, finishing in a time of 2:22.83, placing her fourth. Senior Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) placed fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.30 seconds, while sophomore Anne Holdeman (Bloomington, Ind./Lighthouse Christian Academy) placed ninth in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:04.07.
In addition, Gatchell, Holdeman, senior Jessie Taylor (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and freshman Madison Castro (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian Academy) placed fifth in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 13:25.08.
Both teams will now gear up for the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Indoor Championships hosted at Youngstown State University on Thursday, February 24.
