Alexander and Konneh Each Recognized by PAC

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After school record-setting weekends for both athletes, junior Daphne Alexander and sophomore Abe Konneh were each recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) when the organization released its track and field weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon. Alexander was named the women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Konneh earned the Track Athlete of the Week award on the men's side. Both Alexander and Konneh competed at the Dave Labor Invitational at Slipper Rock University this weekend and were the top performers for Geneva on the women's and men's teams, respectively.

Alexander had a splendid performance in the high jump on Saturday, clearing a school record 1.65 meters to take fifth place overall in the event, and first among competing NCAA Division III athletes. She was the only D3 athlete to place in the top eight in the event, jumping mainly against Division 1 and Division II competition. Her mark is currently tied for 11th place overall nationally and is the top jump in both the PAC as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region. She also ran in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 16.12 seconds.

Konneh also had a standout weekend, breaking the school record in the 200-meter dash while tying the record in the 100-meter dash. He won the 200 with a time of 20.98 seconds, which was .1 seconds faster than the previous record and good enough to slot him fourth in the nation, along with being the fastest time in the PAC this year by nearly half a second. Also, he finished second overall in the 100, running a 10.49 to tie Dom Data's record from 2022. That time is the fastest in the PAC this year and ranks 15th nationally.

Both the Golden Tornadoes' men's and women's track and field teams are scheduled to compete three more times before the PAC Outdoor Championships in late April. Their next meet is the Westminster Invitational, which takes place this Saturday, April 11, starting at 9:45 a.m.
