GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Geneva College men's and women's track team headed to Thiel on Saturday to compete in the Tomcat Invitational, with the exception of senior Dom Data (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) and freshman Kevin Arseneaux (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional), who headed to Bucknell University to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic, and Data highlighted the day's competition by winning the 200-meter dash in school record time.
Arseneaux began the weekend competing in the 1500-meter race on Friday afternoon, and the freshman put forward a personal-best time of 3:59.36, less than two seconds off the school record time. Then on Saturday, Arseneaux ran a personal-best time in the 800-meters, finishing in a time of 1:55.56.
Data then followed with his record-breaking performance in the 200-meter dash, winning the race composed of Division I, Division II and Division III runners with a time of 21.44 seconds.
Several Golden Tornadoes turned in strong performances at Thiel as well. Freshman Eric Hardman (East Palestine, Ohio/Wellsville) won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 59.20 seconds.
In the field, senior Giovanni Segura (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) placed second in the shot put with an effort of 12.95 meters. Sophomore Noah Foust (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) wasn't far behind, finishing in fourth place with a throw of 12.80 meters. Foust also placed third in the discus with a toss of 40.85 meters.
Senior Olivia Younger (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) led the way for the women, winning the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.94 seconds, while also winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.15. Junior Naomi Swartzbaugh (Spartansburg, Pa./Spartansburg) also placed well in the hurdles, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.82 seconds and placing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.37
In addition, freshman Madison Castro (Colorado Springs, Colo./Evangelical Christian Academy) finished third in the 400-meters with a time of 1:05.87, while sophomore Jaci Mennetti (Coolspring, Pa./Dubois Area Catholic) placed third in the 5000-meters with a time of 19:28.93. Geneva's 4x100m relay team of Younger, senior Brooke Waters (New Castle, Pa./Shenango), junior Elissa O'Connor (Darlington, Pa./Blackhawk) and freshman Kendall Shaporka (Grindstone, Pa./Frazier) finished second with a time of 52.25 seconds.
Today's meet was the last meet for the Golden Tornadoes before they participate in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship. The two-day event will be held at West Virginia University and begin on Thursday, April 28.
