WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Geneva women's tennis team picked up a key Presidents' Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night at Washington & Jefferson, 5-4. The Golden Tornadoes improve to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in PAC play.
"We haven't beaten W&J in quite a few years, so this was a really exciting night," said Geneva head coach
Mandee Craft. "We fought very, very hard today and it's great to come out on top. It was also great to see Jess get her first collegiate win."
Geneva came out of the doubles portion of the match down 2-1, before fighting back for the win.
Lauren Estes and
Laura Lin Comollo earned a hard-fought victory at No. 1, 8-7 (5).
Estes picked up another point for Geneva at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7, while
Delaney Winterhalter added a point with a victory at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4. The Presidents added two points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles to take a 4-3 lead.
Jenna Allison and
Jessica Bout finished their singles matches simultaneously with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to get the victory for Geneva, 5-4. Allison took the point at No. 5, 6-4, 6-4, as Bout won the first match of her collegiate career at No. 6, 6-4, 5-7, 10-0.
It was Geneva's first win over the Presidents since 2017.
The Golden Tornadoes have a quick turnaround as they return to PAC action on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. against Saint Vincent at the Blackhawk Tennis Courts.
