Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Shaffer’s Hat Trick Helps Soccer Earn Big Win over Penn State Beaver

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College women's team got a first-half hat trick from freshman Maci Shaffer (Columbiana, Ohio/Crestview) on its way to a big 11-0 victory over Penn State Beaver on Friday night.  The victory improved the Golden Tornadoes' record to 2-3-2.

Shaffer opened the scoring in the 16th minute when she made a darting run down the left side and beat the keeper to the near post to Geneva on the board.  Sophomore Emma Daku-Treas (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) doubled the lead with a goal in the 35th minute.  Less than a minute later, Shaffer scored again, and she completed the first-half hat trick with a goal in the 39th minute to send Geneva into the break with a 4-0 lead.

The floodgates opened in the second half against an undermanned Penn State Beaver squad.  Sophomore Julia Robertson (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) got the second-half scoring started with a goal in the 50th minute.  Later in the half, Geneva got two goals from sophomore Abby Shoaff (Bessemer, Pa./Mohawk), another goal from Daku-Treas, and goals from sophomores Saige Musser (Denver, Pa./Cocalico), Lillie Berryman (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield Christian) and Sydney Marchand (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) to close out the scoring, 11-0.

The final shot total showed how lopsided the match was.  Geneva finished with a 58-0 edge in shots, including a 36-0 advantage in shots on goal.  Freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn Schwartz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler), who got the start in her first career collegiate action, didn't face a shot.  Shoaff led the team with 13 shots, including 10 shots on goal.

Geneva travels to Pitt-Greensburg on Monday for its final non-conference match of the season.  The Golden Tornadoes open Presidents' Athletic Conference play next Friday with a road game at Thiel.
